Brandon Sherrod wins the AANS/CNS Peds Award

AAP Neurological Surgery Award
Brandon Sherrod, UAB third-year medical student, won the American Academy of Pediatrics/Section on Neurological Surgery Award from at the AANS/CNS Pediatric Neurosurgery Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL. This award is given for the best paper whose findings broadly impact and improve the health of children by influencing pediatric health care practice through the generalization of pediatric neurosurgical knowledge. Brandon’s work analyzed risk factors for surgical site infection (SSI) after pediatric neurosurgery procedures using data from the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), and compared these to risk factors from a detailed local database at Children’s of Alabama constructed specifically to investigate SSI. This work, along with a companion paper on the morbidity of pediatric neurosurgery SSI has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics. Congratulations to Brandon for this prestigious award.
